Discover Ngorongoro
A safari in Ngorongoro is to enter an incomparable world: a World Heritage volcanic crater, Maasai communities that coexist with nature, and landscapes that seem to be from another planet. Here you will find one of Africa’s highest concentrations of wildlife, in an environment that combines history, culture, and natural beauty.
Our local team knows every corner of the crater and its surroundings. We will take you beyond the iconic views so you can experience Ngorongoro in all its magnitude, learning about both its geological history and the communities that inhabit it.
The Crater: a Safari Inside a Natural Amphitheater
The Ngorongoro Crater is the area’s main attraction: a natural amphitheater over 20 km in diameter, home to more than 25,000 animals, including the Big Five and Tanzania’s last black rhinos.
Descending into the crater is like entering a world apart. Its green walls form an environment that encloses an entire ecosystem: meadows, forests, lagoons, and swamps.
Few experiences in Africa equal the thrill of seeing so many animals concentrated in one place.
Beyond the Crater: the Conservation Area and Olduvai Gorge
Although the crater is the most famous point, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area extends far beyond. Maasai communities live on its plains, maintaining their traditional way of life, and in areas such as the Olduvai Gorge, archaeological remains have been found that tell the oldest story of humanity.
In Ngorongoro, you not only discover nature, but also explore the oldest history of humankind.
Landscapes from another World
The Ngorongoro viewpoints offer unforgettable panoramic views of the savannah, with sunrises and sunsets that are forever etched in your memory. Its altitude provides freshness and views that make this place a unique natural spectacle.
Expert Advice
- Best time to visit: All year round. In the dry season (June-October), visibility is excellent. In the green season (November-May), the landscapes are more spectacular and there are fewer visitors.
- Climate: Cooler than other parks due to its altitude (2,200 m), it is advisable to bring light warm clothing.
- Ideal duration: 1 full day to descend into the crater. Many safaris combine it with Serengeti, Tarangire, or Lake Manyara.
